Our Story

In 2012, Shaun Greaves, our leading Dental Surgeon and Periodontist, acquired his business from the highly regarded Professor Phillip Dowell, who established the practice in 1989. Shaun has continued to build upon a strong tradition of excellence, with his philosophy to place preventative dentistry at the heart of the practice, recognising that lasting oral health is achieved through education, early intervention, and consistent care.

This preventative ethos runs throughout the practice and is particularly reflected in the work of Shaun’s associate, Nicola Phillips, our General Dental Practitioner, along with our experienced hygiene team. We are pleased to welcome both new and existing patients, providing personalised appointments and practical guidance for both adults and children.

Periodontist and Dental Surgeon

Shaun is an experienced dentist with a special interest in periodontology, combining advanced clinical expertise with a calm, reassuring approach to patient care. He is passionate about helping patients maintain healthy gums, preserve natural teeth, and feel confident throughout their treatment journey.

After qualifying from The London Hospital in 1992, he began his career in general practice in Cranleigh. During this time, he became increasingly aware of the significant role that gum disease plays in tooth loss, often equal to that of dental decay.

Driven by this insight, Shaun pursued further specialist training and completed a Master’s degree (MSc) in Periodontology at Guy’s Hospital, enabling him to focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of periodontal disease. He is particularly committed to the preservation of teeth affected by periodontal disease. His approach is predominantly conservative and non-surgical, which is effective for the majority of patients and helps achieve excellent outcomes with minimal intervention.

In more advanced cases, surgical periodontal treatment may be recommended to stabilise severely compromised teeth. Shaun also provides crown lengthening and periodontal grafting procedures, which may be undertaken to enhance smile aesthetics or to support restorative dental treatment.
